Guest Experience

Serving Older Guests

Serve older guests with respect and without assumptions: ask, listen, offer help and respect their choice at every stage of the stay.

Overview

Getting older does not mean inability or weak understanding. Abilities and preferences differ from one person to the next, and good help is offered, never imposed. This course shows hotel colleagues how to support older guests while protecting their dignity and independence.

Based on the Dyafa Hotels & Resorts training deck, it follows four steps: Ask, Listen, Offer and Respect the choice. You will practise clear communication, dignified service language, practical room and movement support, comfort in the restaurant and public areas, and the age-based mistakes to avoid.

Each lesson closes with a scenario quiz to test your judgement.

Frequently asked questions

Should I automatically offer my arm to an older guest?

No. Ask first whether they would like help and how. Never hold a guest's arm suddenly.

Should I speak louder to older guests?

Start with a natural, clear voice and adjust only if the guest asks or their response shows it is needed.

The guest has a companion. Who do I speak to?

Speak directly to the guest. Only turn to the companion if the guest is not able to communicate or asks you to.
